Abstract

The visor is fitted to a crash helmet and is automatically opened and closed, depending on whether the wearer is at rest or in motion. It is hinged (5, 6) to the helmet (1) at each side and has arms (7) extending rearwards and counterweighted to open the visor (3) when at rest. Also on each side, and suitably positioned relative to the hinge and counterweight is an aerofoil surface or blade (4). These provide an upwards force under the effects of the wind generated when in motion, overcoming the counterweights and closing the visor.
