Abstract

An artificial lawn can be laid down in a single block where it is required, unlike others, which are put down in separate layers. The lawn is composed of four layers - a blacking layer of expanded polyurethane and an arrangement of simulated blades of grass formed for example by tufting threads of stabilised polypropylene into a carrier fabric of polypropylene. Between the backing layer and the tufted fabric, a bonding layer of compact polyurethane not only bonds the threads of the pile but also binds the carrier inseparably to the backing layer. The pile is for pref. 10mm high and very dense so that where the strips are joined there are no grooves. The artificial lawn can be installed anywhere and it stands up well to use involving hard wear under the sun, and all types of bad weather.
