Abstract

The power supply can be connected by plug/socket connectors in series with an HV DC power distribution line. The line is broken by appropriately placed circuit breakers. An AC output is produced to drive local equipment. The effective power of the supply is derived from two static converters that can be switched into the HV line and whose outputs are coupled to an output transformer. The reactive power is derived from a motor/generator set whose motor is in series with the HV line. This set also triggers the thyristors in the converters and its output is likewise coupled to the output transformer.
