Abstract
A water turbine(2) is immersed in a stream and coupled directly to a hydraulic pump(3). The pump delivers liquid to a hydraulic motor(6) which is directly coupled to an electric generator(5). The motor and generator are mounted remotely from the turbine and pump outside the stream. The arrangement makes it possible to extract energy from streams with very low heads. Several pumps each with its own turbine can supply a common motor driving one generator.
