Abstract

Variations of liquid volume introduced under pressure into an expandable cell are determined utilising three channel valves. The cell is used for measurement of mechanical characteristics of rocks or ground. A tube (1) forming a principal reservoir has an output (3) communicating with output (4) of a sight tube (2) depending on position of valve (5). The outputs connect with an orifice (7) of three channel valve (8) connected to the cell (12). A liquid is introduced (10) into reservoir base and a gas is introduced (14) into the top of reservoir. Manipulation of valves enables normal or high sensitivity measurements to be made.
