Abstract

The pedal chain drive mounting for a bicycle is a unit which can be pre-assembled separately and fitted into the bicycle frame (1). The chain wheel (4) and the crank arms (2, 3) fit into the ends (6) of the spindle (5). This rotates in sealed ball races (8, 9) their cages being a force fit in each end of the tubular housing (7). The races fit up to shoulders (10) and are retained by circlips (12, 13). The complete unit is held by end caps. One (14) is a force fit (16) onto the tubular housing and screws down against a flange (19), the other (15) screws down against a flange (19), the other (15) screws into the other end and is locked by a ring (21).
