Abstract

The crank drive for a bicycle has several sprockets. The pedal shaft (1) has at each end parts (2, 3) which are inserted in it. Cranks (4, 5) are held on by the inserted parts and two or more sprockets (7, 8) are mounted on one crank (4). The pedal shaft is carried in ball bearings (23, 24) and the cranks are secured by bolts (2, 3) in threads in the ends of the pedal shaft. The sprockets are held on by screws (9) in the pedal and hub assembly. The pedal shafts are oval in section the major axis being twice the size of the minor one.
