Abstract

The turbine has an outer casing with a conical front piece open to the wind. This leads to the throat of a venturi. An impeller with axial flow blades (23) rotates within the venturi. A cone on the front of the impeller is fixed and carries stationary guide vanes (20). It forms the inner surface of an annular inlet passage of which the casing cone is the outer surface. This guides and concentrates the wind to increase the power of the turbine. The tailpiece of the casing downstream of the impeller is a divergent nozzle. The flow of wind produces a depression in this which increases the flow through the turbine. A similar turbine can be used with water instead of air.
