Abstract

Glass is decorated by painting on to the surface with miscible transparent or translucent inks of various tints and allowing the inks to mix at least partially before drying. The inks are pref. applied using fine sponges (not brushes) and may be fused by a preheat treatment prior to drying. The inks may be oil-based, cold-setting enamels, glazing varnishes or acrylic-resin based inks. Pref. any surface polish is removed from the glass to provide sufficient porosity to retain the inks. Readily provides a wider variety of combinations of colours and shades than use of glass tinted in bulk.
