Abstract

1,094,104. Transfers. JOHNSON, MATTHEY & CO. Ltd. March 3, 1965 [March 4, 1964], No. 9108/64. Heading B6C. A transfer suitable for use in the application of designs &c. to a heat-resisting base, e.g. pottery or glass, comprises a detachable back ing sheet, one or more layers of an ink in which is incorporated a ceramic pigment without a flux or binder, and a layer of an adhesionpromoting flux of glass-forming constituents covering at least the pigment-containing ink layer or layers. The backing sheet is preferably coated with gum and may be removed after being soaked in water. The flux layer may be coated with a protective layer of lacquer or varnish. Examples are given of suitable ceramic pigments; the flux may be a lead oxide-boric acid-silica composition.
