Abstract

The rear seat of the estate car has the squab hinged about its front axis on the flat floor while the seat back (4) is hinged on the squab and is set in the selected angle by ratchets along the side of the car. A well in front of the seat enables the squab to be dropped partially down, when set vertical, and with the seat back flat on the squab. The folded rear seat exposes the maximum amount of luggage space with the vertical setting of the folded seat forming a safety barrier to prevent the load from sliding onto the front seats.
