Abstract

A conveyor band runs horizontally with its conveying face in a vertical plane. This conveying face pulls a single file line of dough pieces across the top of a horizontal conveyor which advances intermittently each time a full line has been laid across it. The horizontal conveyor dumps complete rows of dough pieces into conveying suspension troughs for fermentation. The novelty is that dough pieces are pressed against the vertical face of the first conveyor band as it pulls them across the horizontal surface of the second conveyor. Pressure is pref. applied by a flexible blanket hanging against the conveying face of the first conveyor, which is pref. laid back slightly from the vertical to ensure that the blanket lies against it. The blanket can be made up a number of overlapping panels. The side of the blanket remote from the conveying face can be fitted with supplementary weights to increase blanket pressure, e.g. hanging chains, etc. By holding the dough pieces against the vertical conveying surface, slip is prevented and spacing between pieces maintained ready for transfer into the fermenting troughs.
