Abstract

Metal cathode for electrolytic deposition of metals, has at its periphery, at least in the region immersed in the electrolyte, a V- or U-shaped seating, the opening of which is directed outwards and into which is introduced one of the edges of an insulating, plastic or elastic strip, the width of which is greater than the depth of the seating. Used for electrodeposition of Cu, Ni, Co, Mn, Au, Ag, Pt, etc. or their prepn. by electrolytic refining, esp. in thin sheets removable from the cathode substrate. The seating prevents deposition of metal at the edge in such a way that it cannot readily be removed. It prevents formation of functions between the deposits formed on the two faces of the cathodes. Hence removal of the deposit from the substrate is facilitated.
