Abstract

An electronic ignition system for an I.C. engine has a special control circuit for the sparking signals of an AC ignition system. The signal is of variable period with a continuously high voltage. The ignition system incorporates an electronic switching element (18) for starting and terminating the sparking signal. The electronic switch is controlled by a transistorised circuit with a contactor (28) which produces a signal controlled by an I.C. engine and which initiates the sparking signal. There is an electrical time control circuit (32, 43, 47, 51, 62, 68) which releases the electronic switch for an interval which is inversely proportional to the speed of the engine. The duration of the sparking signal is synchronised to the angular displacement of the crankshaft.
