Abstract

A damped spring balance has a tray (1) in which items to be weighed ar placed. The mass of the item moves the tray vertically downwards along a trajectory defined by a parallel beam tracking linkage (3, 4) mounted on the framework (5) of the balance. Force is transmitted to a charge cell (8) by a spring (13) connected to an extension of the lower beam (4). Vibrational noise in the cell (8) is reduced by use of a damping dashpot (15) located in the base of the frame.
