1389235 Linkwork PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 13 June 1972 [16 June 1971] 27575/72 Heading F2K In a device for supporting articles and permitting their positioning to be accurately adjusted, in optical measuring set-ups, under a microscope or in integrated circuit manufacture, the articles are supported on a column 29 fixed through a diaphragm 25 to a table 11 which is movable within a frame 3 by a lever 4 secured to the centre of a diaphragm 9 whose periphery is clamped to the table and to the centre of a diaphragm 5 whose periphery is clamped to a base-plate 2 of the frame 3, the table being connected by a pair of parallel leaf springs 12 and 13 to an intermediate plate which is in turn connected by a pair of leaf springs, whose planes are perpendicular to those of springs 12, 13, to the base-plate 2, so that the table is movable. The top of lever 4 fits non-centrally in a ball 18 having a lever 24 to move it so that movement of lever 24 causes movement of lever 4. The ball 18 is mounted in a part 20 which engages the inside of a spherical cup 22 under the action of a spring 23 acting on the base of lever 4 so that the part 20 and cup 22 can be disengaged by depressing a knob 19 which can then be used for coarse adjustment of the table's position. A plate 27 and a plate 30 secured to the table 11 engage a grease plate 31 secured to the baseplate 2, which allows a higher load to be imposed on the table than would otherwise be possible and also damps the table movement.
