Abstract

Appts. for casting metal ingots uses a ladle with a bottom pour stopper actuated by a servo unit driven by a controller. The controller contains a casting speed programmer feeding the desired speed to both a coupling unit (I) and a comparator fed with the actual speed and the difference is fed to the unit (I) which then actuates the servo. The ladle is weighed and the weighing machine feeds signals to a signal generator which is periodically scanned to obtain signals converted to Sa and fed to the comparator. The generator pref. uses formulae and/or functions derived from the change in ladle wt. w.r.t. time. A second signal generator may be used between the unit (I) and the servo, and additional comparator circuit being connected to this generator.
