Abstract

The ski binding comprises a pivotable sole support (13) which is coupled to the heel support (39-44) by means of a connection, for example a toggle lever (29, 33), which can be shortened. The heel support is assigned an extension (46) directed to the rear in a fixed reference position. The extension (46) is inserted under a holding-down means (48). The connection (29, 33), which can be shortened and is locked in the extended position when the boot (12) is firmly clamped in, serves to introduce the extension (46) in the holding-down means (48) for downhill skiing and thus to fix the heel support (39-44) on the ski (10) or for cross-country skiing it serves to take the extension (46) out of the holding-down means (48), as a result of which the heel support (39-44) is released to pivot about the pivot axis of the sole support (13).
