Abstract

Plant for mfg. cement, via the dry process, uses a rotary drum furnace from which exhaust gases travel up one preheater. A second preheater is supplied with exhaust gas from a combustion chamber located upstream of the furnace, which is followed by a clinker cooler. Exhaust gases leaving one of the preheaters are used to heat a boiler; and air heated by cooling the clinker is fed to a heat-exchanger to reheat the water used in the boiler. The cooler is pref. a grid cooler with a cold and a hot zone; and air used in the cold zone is pref. fed through the exchanger and then re-used in the same zone or in the hot zone. More than one exchanger may be used. Increased thermal efficiency is obtd. by using heat in the clinker to operate a boilder which provides electric or mechanical energy.
