Abstract

The machine has a powered, reciprocating punch which compresses the fruit against the flat face of an annular die and continues to advance to displace the fruit stone through the hole in the die. The stoned fruit is retained by the flat face of the die. The stoned fruit is retained is provided with pockets, each to carry a fruit between a set of punches on one side of the chain and a mating set of dies on the other side. Each pocket is open on both sides to allow a punch to pass through as it displaces a fruit stone. The set of dies is pref. mounted on a displaceable base plate which can bring the dies into contact with the fruit when the chain stops ready for the punches to advance. Any fruit stuck to a die face after stoning is pref. detached by a mechanised doctor blade. Stoned fruits are pref. discharged from conveyor pockets by jets of compressed air. The motions of the punches, die plate and doctor blade are pref. derived from fluid power cylinders. The fruit can be bulk-loaded into the machine.
