Abstract

The lightweight framed structure uses posts (2) in compression and flexible tendons (1 & 5-7) in tension, and may support a supple covering membrane (4) of e.g. plastics film or textile canvas. An assembled structure may have identical cross frames (1, 2) at longitudinal and stabilised by the membrane (4) and overlain by secondary tendons (5-7). The cross-frames may comprise three equally spaced posts (2) with the central post of greater height, and with a tendon (1) traversing the heads of the posts to anchorages (3) on each flank. The assembled unit may be deployed in drying tobacco leaves and the membrane (4) simply rests on the tendons (1). The only fastenings of the membrane to the structure may occur on the perimeter of the membrane. Resistance to wind pressures and climatic changes may be provided by secondary cables (5-7) on top of membrane (4).
