Abstract

The thick wall cooling system comprises metal studs at right angles to the wall and secured to it by screwing, welding, press-fitting or crimping. Each stud (1) has fins (3) parallel to the wall (2). Some at least of the fins can be polygonal, their shape and dimensions being such as to form with those on adjacent studs a continuous surface. The mechanical strength of the fins can be such that they will absorb a shock-load of predetermined value without damaging the wall. Those in contact with adjacent fins can be of material having a large capacity to absorb radiation. The stud can incorporate a closed chamber containing fluid with a high degree of heat conductivity, to increase the rate of heat transfer.
