Abstract

Appts. for loading continuously extruded flexible tubing on to spools comprises a pair of chutes having their input mouths side-by-side adjacent to coincident perforations in a plate forming one half of a shear cutter. The second plate of the cutter has a single hole so that relative movement of the plates simultaneously shears the tubing and shifts the fresh end to the other chute. Each chute is both pivotted and telescopic to align the free end with a slot in a spool core and then to track the hose path transversely and radially with respect to the spool axis. Spools are mounted on a turret which can rotate in steps to move spools successively between take-up, wind-up and unloading positions around the turret path. Suitable for continuous collection of spool lengths of hose at typical extrusion throughput rates of 20-40 m/min without manual intervention or variation in take-off rate.
