Abstract

Pipe for transporting a fluid under high pressure has an undulating tubular section (I) enclosed by >=1 cords which engage in the trough(s) of the coil(s) forming the undulations. The undulating section and the cord(s) are enclosed in an annular package of cords having a high degree of tensile strength, enclosed by a protective cladding. (I) has a spiral wave form along its length, and a spiral cord engages in the groove. (I) may have undulations enclosed by cords in the form of rings engaging with the troughs of the waves. The tubular section is pref. of metal, esp. stainless steel. The cords enclosing (I) are pref. of PTFE. Used partic. for connecting of seabed well heads to surface installations where the load on a 25cm pipe is around fifty tons. In addition to its high tensile strength, the pipe can be subjected to continuous bending without breaking.
