Abstract
1390280 Pipes KABEL-UND METALLWERKE GUTEHOFFNUNGSHUTTE AG 20 Nov 1972 [27 Dec 1971] 53564/72 Heading F2P [Also in Division H1] A tubular structure which may be used as a fluid conduit or electric cable sheath comprises inner and outer helically corrugated pipes 1, 5 and a strip 2 helically wound between the pipes without contact of its adjacent edges, the strip having raised and/or depressed portions 3, 4 and acting to resist longitudinal expansion of the inner pipe. The pipes may be of copper, aluminium or steel, and the strip of copper, aluminium or a plastics material. A polyethylene sheath 7 may be provided and the space 6 between the pipes filled with a pressurized inert gas with means for monitoring the gas pressure to detect leaks. The structure may be manufactured by winding a predeformed strip around the inner pipe, winding a flat strip around the inner pipe under sufficient tension to cause plastic deformation of the strip or winding a flat strip around the inner pipe, disposing the outer pipe around the inner pipe and corrugating it in such a manner as to cause plastic deformation of the strip.
