Abstract

A pipe joint (1) is formed from an outer flange (2) which clamps an inner flange (4) against a similar mating flange. The inner flange (4) is welded to the pipe (8). The outer flange (2) has its inner edge (3) of U shaped cross-section so that a seating (5) abuts against the back of the inner flange (4). The periphery of the outer flange (2) is bent over at right angles to form a very rigid cross-section which resists the bending moments due to internal pressures and bolt loads. The outer flange (2) may be fixed permanently to the inner flange (4) or it may be fitted as a loose flange.
