Abstract

L'invention a pour objet un procédé pour perfectionner la méthode Bayer de traitement des bauxites renfermant du diaspore et/ou de la goethite et/ou de l'hématite finement dispersée, dans lequel ledit traitement est accéléré et dans lequel on transforme le cas échéant, la goethite en hématite et recristallise l'hematite finement dispersée, tout en augmentant le rendement en alumine en traitant la bauxite à une température de 180 à 300 degrés C avec une liqueur d'aluminate d'une concentration en NA2 O de 30 à 300 g/litre. Elle est caractérisée en ce que ledit traitement de la bauxite est effectué en présence d'un catalyseur du type grenat hydraté de formule générale :
