Abstract

Magnetic centring appts. is described for moving parts where one part is rotating relative to the other around an axis. The appts. comprises >=1 annular magnt on each part. The magnets are both permanent, their magnetism being in an axial direction. They are basically composed of cobalt and rare earth mixts. maintaining a magnetism superior to 0.8 Tesla in a demagnetising field superior to their magnetisation. The radial dimensions of the magnets are different. The appts. may be used to support the spindles of an inertia whell, partic. in a satellite where the fact that it does not need an energy source is partic. beneficial. The appts. can also be used for centring the bowl of a centrifuge for isotope separation. It si also simple and may be easily adapted for various operational methods.
