Abstract

A gas chromatograph gas a column which can withstand high internal pressures. It has an inlet which means for injecting sample under pressure. A reducing valve at the column outlet controls the pressure at that point at a value between 2-50 atmospheres absolute. The valve also regulates the speed of the gas in the column so that good sepn. of the samples occurs. the reducing valver is preferably adjustable. Where samples of sepd. components are to be taken at the column and analysed. Low flow rates can be used with good sepn. still occuring. The column can be used in line with various types of spectrometer "Stop flow" working can be employed. Samples from the outlet can be taken uncontaminated by components from outside or from the feed. The pressure and concentration of samples allows them to be analysed without extra handling.
