Abstract

The prosthesis is used to replace the hip joint of a patient and comprises a liner (9) for the pelvis (16). This retains the ball (5a) of the socket joint, its other end (5) projecting outwards at an angle. Its base (7a) is fixed to the top of an insert (1) screwed into the medullar canal of the hip bone (2), spigot (6) fitting closely into a deep hole (3). The junction (7) has a long screw (4), its head being recessed into a counterbore. This junction is located into a flat rebate which has been cut into the top of the hip bone, one side forming a butting face.
