Abstract

Hydro-electric power station with a column shaped housing (20) determining the size of a chamber (41, 41') with the housing in the water and the chamber located below the water surface. The housing also determines a number of pressure pipes (26) which open into the water at points located between the top of the chamber and the water surface and lead into the chamber (41, 41') containing hydroelectric generators (29) with turbines (31). The power station includes a container (33) to supply impounded water from the corresponding turbines and are fitted with pipe sockets (46) on the housing connected with the chamber and opening at levels into the water which are below the chamber. The unit has sensor controlled switches to balance the pressure inside the containers in relation to the water and to adjust the buoyancy of the containers to ensure that the water level in the chamber remains between pre-determined limits.
