Abstract

The practice charge is used for military exercises and has a biodegradable case made from plaster. This case is in two parts (1, 2) forming two separate compartments when fitted together. Joints are fitted to prevent access of moisture to the interior. Smoke generating pellets (4) are placed in one compartment (3) and a small explosive charge (6) in the other (5). Fuses (7) are provided to each compartment and a practice detonator (12) fitted in each end. Firing of either detonator ignites the pellets, smoke issuing from vents at the side of the casing. The explosive charge is also ignited, ejecting a canister (15) producing a signal noise.
