Abstract

The tubular stay for machine axles is threaded onto an axle and constitutes part of a stack of elements elastically fixed onto the axle. Two steel stay consists of a cylindrical sleeve (201) which is splayed out at one end to form a ring (202) which can deform elastically when the stay is subjected to compression from both ends. The ring can be either a shallow cone in which case it is flattened under compression or it can be flat in which case the dge zones take the compression. The muff can also be made with an oblong section so that a cotter pin can be used to pin the stay to the axle.
