Abstract

The joint may be used between structural components of precast reinforced concrete and is designed to resist tension. The problem of bonding reinforcing bars which project into a confined joint is resolved by bending the projection into a lateral 'U' and passing a large dia. transverse bar through the base of the 'U'. Lateral 'U' formations (4) projecting in opposition from the abutting ends of the precast units (1, 2) may overlap, be staggered and be united by the transverse bar passing through alternate loops. Alternatively an interval may be left between projecting loops (4), a transverse bar (5) being placed in each loop, and a tie link (8) used between the transverse bars. In the latter instance tubes may be used in lieu of transverse bars (5) and diametric link bolts may be used.
