Abstract
854,575. Girders. AVI ALPENLANDISCHE VEREDELUNGS-INDUSTRIE-G.m.b.H. Jan. 13, 1959 [Jan. 15, 1958; Aug. 26, 1958], No. 1267/59. Classes 20(2) and 20(4) A girder, particularly for use as reinforcement for concrete, comprises a rod 1 as the upper chord, two rods or two pairs of rods (as shown) 2a, 3a connected by transverse members 2b, 3b as the lower chord and a zig-zag connecting web 5 comprising two rods 5a connected by transverse members 5c, the longitudinal rods 2a, 3a, 5a having a higher yield point than the transverse members. The web 5 is welded to the transverse members 2b, 3b and the rods 5a are bent inwards to be welded to the rod 1. A further element comprising two longitudinal rods joined by transverse members may be welded parallel to, above or below and connecting the two lower chords 2a, 3a. In a modification the web 5 has transverse members 5c, Fig. 7, mid-way between the chords and during manufacture the rods 5a of the web are moved from an initial parallel position about the end of the members 5c to the position shown to engage the chord 1. In further modifications the chord 1 is of channel or T-section. The web may be connected to the lower chord by transverse rods passed between the chord and the lower loops of the web placed beneath the chord, the connection being fixed by the concrete for which the girder forms a reinforcement. A curved girder may be made by connecting the second chord after the'first chord and web have been connected and curved. A support for the end of a girder used as concrete reinforcement comprises a plate 7, Fig. 12, welded between the ends of the rods of the lower chords and adapted to be embedded in the wall of a chimney 9.
