Abstract

A web e.g. of paper is coated by applying a coating compound to the web before it passes through a nip between two flat elements having surfaces lying parallel with the surface of the web. A pressure is applied to one of the elements in a direction towards and perpendicular to the face of the web. Thicker coatings (e.g. having a density of 25-35 gm/m2) can be smoothly applied to the web. Coatings contg. granular material can also easily be applied to the web.
