Abstract

The vehicle safety belt locking device is part of a primary electrical circuit. It incorporates a relay with adjustable time lag, and an electromagnet (8) energised when the ignition is switched on, coupled to a locking lever (3). A switch closes under a shock load in any direction which is dangerous to the user. The relay operates in such a manner that after the time lag has expired, the electromagnet is de-energised and the belt released. There can also be a safety switch, connected to the relay, so that the primary electrical circuit is switched off at the same time as the belt is released.
