Abstract

The mechanism allows manual release of a safety belt, or several belts simultaneously. It has a pushbutton switch mounted on the dashboard or steering wheel of the vehicle, which gives instant belt release when pressed, typically by energising an electromagnet. There can be an electro-mechanical assembly locking a plate automatically. Ejection of the plate, giving release, is effected by the electro-magnet acting on a mechanical assembly. The plate can be at the end of the belt, engaging with the mechanism.
