Abstract

The buckle for safety belts in vehicles has a flat tongue (12) which fits into the body (1) of the buckle. A U-shaped piece pivots around an axle (36) and has a tooth (40) which fits into a hole (15) in the bolt when the buckle is closed. A cylindrical rod (56) holds the tooth in position and is pushed forward by a coil spring (64). The rod is released by pushing back a press button (68) to compress the spring. The press button also pushes on the U-shaped piece and causes it to pivot and disengages the tooth from the bolt.
