Abstract

The mechanism for propelling a brush along a chimney, air duct, etc, consists of a pneumatic cylinder (1) with a piston rod on which a brush can be mounted. Two arms (5) are pivoted on a collar (6) and are pressed to the wall (3) by tension springs (7) Two similar arms (9) are mounted on the end of the cylinder (1). When air is admitted to one end of the cylinder (1), the piston rod (2) moves to the left but any movement of the cylinder (1) is resisted by the arms (9) gripping the chimney wall (3). When air is admitted to the other end of the cylinder the arms (5) remain fixed and the cylinder is pushed to the left so that the mechanism moves in a step-wise motion.
