Abstract
Construction blocks are made by filling a mould with expanded polystyrene beads and then flooding the mould with a catalysed phenolic resin. The mould is charged with beads carried in an airstream and precoated with catalysed resin and a powdered mineral. The expanded beads may be compressed in the mould before and during resin injection. The mould may be lined with one or more insert layers of glass fibre and gel coat resin. The mould vent is screened to allow the carrier air to exhaust without entraining the beads. Used for making blocks, covers or lining slabs of various forms combining insulation with strength and fire resistance.
