Abstract
A thermal energy source is based on the use of a laser exciting a primary fluid which is part of a heat exchanger. The system is suitable for general industrial and domestic heating applications where environmental pollution cannot be tolerated. The energy source is a gas laser working, typically, in the infra-red region. Its output is fed via a modulator (10) providing maximum atomic excitation of the primary fluid or gas (6) e.g. Krypton or Nitrogen. Modulation control is from a sensor (11) in the wall of the ovoid cross-section primary enclosure, further control being obtained from a thermostat (14) monitoring the temperature of the secondary liquid (2) enclosing the primary circuit.
