Abstract

The appts. is for rapid displacement of the movable contact of a pair of contacts, and gives an ab upt variation of electric current comprising a magnetic circuit (10) which has a small air gap (20), and surrounding at least one current carrying conductor to generate a magnetic field in the air gap proportional to the current. A component part of the conductor has a part in the form of a thin plate inserted in a position of closure of the movable contact in the air gap, the magnetic circuit comprising two extensions in the form of flanges laterally surrounding the pair of contacts, magnetically to extinguish an arc between the contacts during the opening of the movable contact.
