Abstract

The plastic pipe (T) fits in the bore of the metal fitting (C) which has a screw thread to suit the nut (E). The nut is provided with a groove to receive the central ridge of the biconic member (B). As the nut (E) is tightened the bi-conic member bites into the wall of the pipe to make leak-tight joint. A sleeve (IF) with two grooves (Cd1, Cd2) is fitted in the bore of the pipe (T). The sleeve prevents the pipe from collapsing under the radial pressure of the bi-conic member. The grooves provide room for expansion of the material of the pipe when it is exposed to high temp. so that the joint is still maintained when the temp. returns to normal.
