Abstract

A gas heater (11) for an incinerator comprises a cylindrical sleeve (13) with a shell (12) to form inner and outer flow spaces (14,15) and a bellows (26) located axially beyond the sleeve and connecting it expandably to the shell at one end. Gas to be heated flows through the outer space and a burner (36) generates hot gas in the inner space. An extended heat exchange surface (41) projects outwardly from the sleeve into the outer space and a baffle (37) is mounted within the sleeve to channel the hot gas into a convection passage. The baffle is cylindrical with a closed end to provide a convection passage at the exit end of the sleeve.
