Abstract

An electrical contractor is part of an electric circuit used to indicate wear or failure of a vehicle braking system. The contactor is fitted to the case (15) of an air brake cylinder. It has an insulating material body (11) and an electrically conductive push rod (12). The rod (12) can slide between an open circuit and a closed circuit position. At the open circuit position, the rod (12) has been moved by the piston (18) of the air brake cylinder. The rod (12) has a leaf spring (20) which makes contact with a collar (25) to close an indicating circuit. The rod (12) does not return to its initial position on removal of the piston (18). The rod (12) may be reset manually and the circuit also reset by pressing against the extension of the rod (12).
