Abstract

The fragmentation projectile has a casing with prefabricated fragments between two tubular coaxial bodies and joined to them is necessary by high-pressure distortion or shrinkage. Alternatively they can be cast into, or secured by friction in a supporting skeleton of material rigid when cold. The ratio of the mass of the explosive to the fragmentation mass varies along the projectile axis, so that the discharge speed of the fragments on bursting varies, giving a greater degree of dispersion. Alternatively the charge can be evenly dispersed and the thickness of the casing varied.
