Abstract

The compressed air cylinder has a proximity switch (14, 15) in each end cap (2, 3). These detect the piston and rod assembly (5, 6) in each extreme position and provide a control signal. No contact is required between switch and piston rod assembly. Each switch has a threaded body, screwed directly into a tapped hole (12, 13) in each cap. After adjusting for position and operation, it is locked in place by tightening a locknut (24, 25) against a seal (28, 29). Each switch has a nose (17, 17a) providing an inductive field when near metal. This is converted and amplified by a transistor circuit in the switch body to form an electrical signal.
