Abstract
The alloy comprises (%); Zn 4-62; Mg 0.8-3.0% Cu 0-1.5% Zr 0.05-0.3; Fe 0-0.2; Si 0-0.15; Mn 0-025; Ti 0-0.1, balance Al. The (malleable) alloy has improved hot-moulding characteristics, mechanical properties and improved resistance to stress-cracking and layer corrosion. The Zr may be added as an Al-Cr pre-alloy. The cast alloy is fine-grained and may be soln.-tempered. It has a low chill-resistance so that air-cooling after cooling is necessary.
