Abstract

The arrangement for holding a spare wheel (2) for a motor car uses a wire cage (3) mounted under the chassis, i.e under the floor (1) of the luggage boot, so that the wheel is retained horizontally without occupying any luggage space. This cage has two wire arms forming a V shape, supported by a wire rod (4) across them. The two arms are bent, to match the shape of the wheel, with ends hooked over. When a catch (16) holding them is released,the whole cage can be swung out about a vertical pivot (7) and the V part swung down with the cross rod (4) forming a pivot, to rest on the ground for simple removal of the wheel. The end of the rod remote from its pivot, carries a roller (6) which travels along a horizontal curved guide track (14) when the cage is swung out.
